    Beautifully acted romantic film about a married woman who desires to break free from her heterosexual oppressive marriage and into a lesbian relationship. It is deeply emotional. Great sociology film on the forced institution of marriage in a community where women feel oppressed by their husbands.

    None of the main characters fit into the cliched profiles I expected: the aggressor was passive, the passive was the aggressor, and the traditional was understanding, despite it upturning all their lives. Actually made me think better of people in general. Better than I expected.

  • Excellent, Realistic Movie About Tradition Making Way for Love

    Well-modulated performances by Weisz and McAdams give this story its drive and believable romance, although it is the principle male in the story who shows the most generosity and heart in the end. A thoughtful, well-written script illustrates that human beings steeped in rigid tradition and customs are capable of growing and changing without abandoning their belief systems and communities. This is an excellent, realistic drama.
